I love working with people! It’s such a thrill to help a family both preserve their memories and decorate their home. The process of getting together, planning the photography session down to the last detail of location, props, clothing and feel. I get excited about the creative process and my client is excited by back of camera sneak peaks. A couple weeks later, the editing complete, I call to schedule the viewing… Here is where client panic sets in…
Client anxiety starts with the overwhelming number of amazing images. They get locked up in the pressure of deciding on favorites and are almost paralyzed choosing sizes. Too often in this anxiety to gather up every image, they end up settling for a zillion 5×7’s. Then delivery happens and people leave disappointed with the stack they may never end up framing or get around to scrapbooking.
This is where my job shifts from photographer to interior designer. Helping my clients really hone their collection of favorites to I just the ‘best of the best’ and helping them find the perfect way to enjoy their portraits… THAT’S MY JOB! For me it’s never about the sale. More often than not an order with bunched of 5×7’s is more costly than a couple carefully selected canvas prints. I’d rather a client have the canvas on their walls where they can enjoy them than 5×7’s in a drawer or box.
The trick is showing a client the value… A canvas collection with 3-4 canvases can start as about $500.00 or about 30 5×7’s for about the same price. Canvases need no framing and come ready to hang. 5×7’s need to have frames. That’s an extra expense! You could spend anywhere between $30.00 and another $500.00 framing those 5×7’s! What would you rather do with all that framing money? expand your collection? Get a custom album? Make a car payment? When you look at the value… clients get excited not only about the concept but also the value. Then paralysis sets in again as they have to decide on a size. “Oh my God! Will it fit? Will it be too small? Will these go together or look awkward? No way that’s too big! It’s barely on the wall…Did I get enough?” I’ve heard them all. Not to worry – I am happy to assist you with not only narrowing down your favorites but I am also proud to offer a complimentary wall art design consultation during your ordering session. I can help you visualization and take all the guesswork out of the process by showing you exactly what your images will look like on the walls of your own home!
For me its all about the joy! What is truly rewarding to me it watching my clients experience joy when they sit back and look at how easily I take their treasured memories and craft memorable art embellished walls. I never want my clients to leave disappointed on delivery with a pile of tiny gift prints. I’d rather have them waiting excitedly with that hammer laid out on the kitchen counter. I love unveiling box of a few generous sized canvases, carefully selected memories. The joy on their faces as I unveil their collection. That’s priceless! Memories they can see and enjoy every day! I want the art on their walls to be captured moments…
