Schreiner University Alumna Called Home

It’s a pretty proud day when your Alma Mater recognizes your achievement and hands you your degree but prouder still for me, was the day they called me to do some work for them. I was just leaving Texas Professional Photographer Association Summer Fest, where I took my Certified Professional Photographer exam. I was excited and nervous at the same time. Passing would really validate my knowledge and be a huge accomplishment. Anyway, all packed for the ride home and getting in my car, my phone rang. Calling to do a check up on 2014 graduates, Dana Carmen asked me, “So, what’s going on in your life after Schreiner University? Job? More school?” I just bubbled over with how I couldn’t get a job but the freelance photography I was doing just exploded, I had declared my DBA and started a business and was getting certified as a professional photographer and I was so excited to be self-employed and being able to do so many of the things I always wanted to do… I’m pretty sure the whole conversation was one long run-on sentence. Closing out the call I told her about having photographed for Greystone Preparatory School, on Schreiner’s campus that spring and how much I love giving back to the place that was my home in a time of my greatest need. She said she would keep that in mind and the call ended. Two weeks later I was called in to photograph portraits for a major marketing piece, Momentum 2015. This annual publication goes out to donors and alumni all over the place! Stepping on to campus for 14 portrait sessions, it was like coming home. It was such an honor to photograph these people, who I felt such a profound connection with, through our common bond of Schreiner. I am so excited to be a part of the team that put that piece together and have my work arriving in mailboxes across the nation! It’s a big step for little old me!
